Out of the operating room.

We just spoke with Drs. Cotton and Wooten. Dr. Wooten is the Fellow who participated in the surgery and will be overseeing the day to day recovery process from ENT’s perspective. They said things went well. Textbook from their perspective.

They actually used two pieces of rib cartilage: one was place horizontal to the tracheal rings essentially over the area where the stoma was located. The second crosses perpendicular to the first and runs up the length of the trachea.

The only other thing was that they had trouble placing the foley catheter so he will be having a urology consult while he is in the ICU. I guess my life with boys wouldn’t be complete without the odd pee pee problem along the way. Now is as good a time as any, I suppose!

We’ve taken the suction machine out to the car! And now we are waiting for the ICU to give us the all clear to go up and see him. We can’t wait.

I’ve been thinking about you guys all afternoon and evening and am really glad to read all went well. I was so glad to meet you and hope it helped pass some of the time. I well remember the jittery anticipation during Ainsley’s surgeries so I hope it wasn’t too overwhelming to chat during such a stressful time. I look forward to reading about his recovery and hope your stay in Cincinnati is a short one. Hugs.
